CQUniversity deploys Internet Explorer version 7

In providing staff and students with streamlined and easy to use browser features, CQUniversity has been progressively transitioning all it’s Windows-based computers by installing Internet Explorer version 7 (IE 7).

Internet Explorer is one of the basic Microsoft programs which operate on all of CQUniversity’s Windows-based computers.

A number of CQUniversity students will already be familiar with IE 7 as they may be using it from home or work, and the majority of Windows-based student computer laboratories were upgraded prior to the commencement of Term 1, 2009.

Since Friday 3 April 2009, all Windows-based staff computers have also progressively had IE 7 installed.

For this upgrade to take effect, when next turning off your computer CQUniversity staff will need to select the option “Install updates and shut down”. Staff with Windows-based laptops should plug their laptop into a CQUniversity network cable and select “Install updates and shut down” to upgrade Internet Explorer on their machines.

Users can determine which version of Internet Explorer they use by opening a new internet browser window; clicking on the ‘Help’ tab located in the toolbar; and selecting ‘About Internet Explorer’. An information box will open outlining the product details for the Internet Explorer program installed on your computer including the version number you are currently using.
IE 7 Functionality with Blackboard

Please be aware that Blackboard users may experience problems viewing the text box editor used to post messages on Blackboard’s discussion boards. To resolve this issue, users must disable the ‘Visual Text Editor’ in ‘Personal Information’ under the ‘Tools menu’. Instructions to change these Blackboard settings are
available online.

IE 7 Toolbar Functionality

IE 7 enables users to view multiple internet sites through a single internet browser window.

Simply press ‘CTRL + T’ to open a new internet tab in your existing internet browser.

The example pictured displays three CQUniversity homepages open in the one internet browser.

If you would like further information regarding this progressive installation of IE 7, please contact the ITD Service Centre on 1300 666 620 or email helpdesk@cqu.edu.au.
