During this upgrade there will be intermittent disruptions to telephone services at Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg, Emerald and Noosaville campuses. ITD expects that these disruptions will affect CISCO telephones only (including CISCO telephone handsets, CISCO ‘software phones’ and CISCO teleconference phones).
Why are we upgrading these systems?
The implementation of this new voicemail system will resolve issues that some staff have experienced when using the voicemail feature on CISCO phones (e.g. ‘message waiting’ light not working when a voicemail has been received, and problems with sound ‘drops-outs’).
The project is being carried out in parallel with a general upgrade of CQUniversity’s telephone system – this includes the upgrades to CQUniversity’s call centres (Student Contact Centre and ITD Service Desk). These enhancements will allow us to provide improved telephone services and new features in the future.
Information for staff using a CISCO telephone:
- From start of business Monday 24 May 2010, the new voicemail system will be available and staff will need to setup their new voicemail settings. For example, record a new voicemail message and setup a new voicemail PIN. Instructions will be provided to staff during the week of 17th May.
- Staff are strongly encouraged to check their voicemails prior to close of business on Friday 21 May 2010, as any existing messages will not be transferred across to the new system. However, old voicemails will still be accessible from the old voicemail system for a short period following the changeover (access instructions will be provided) Note: Any staff using an Ericsson telephone will be able to continue using their existing voicemail system.
Week commencing Monday 17 May 2010… ITD will provide staff that use CISCO telephone handsets with information on how to setup and use the new voicemail system, in preparation for Monday 24 May. The ITD Service Centre and Field Services staff will also be able to assist staff as required.
Friday 21 May 2010… staff that use CISCO telephone handsets should check all existing voicemails.
Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 May 2010… Implementation of new voicemail system for CISCO phones and general upgrade of the University’s telephone system. There will be intermitted disruptions to telephone services at the following CQUniversity locations: Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg, Emerald and Noosaville. ITD expects that these disruptions will affect CISCO telephones only (including CISCO telephone handsets, CISCO ‘software phones’ and CISCO teleconference phones).
From Monday 24 May 2010… the new voicemail system will be available and staff that use CISCO telephone handsets will need to set up their personal voicemail settings using their CISCO phone.

Update on the implementation of CQUniversity’s new voicemail system:
The upgrade of CQUniversity’s voicemail system, previously scheduled for this weekend (Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 May 2010) will now be postponed to a later date.
During recent testing, the Information Technology Division (ITD) has discovered some issues which have caused this voicemail upgrade to be postponed.
It is anticipated that this upgrade will now be rescheduled to the weekend of the 29-30 May or 5-6 June 2010, subject to successful testing and resolution of identified issues and risks.

Rescheduled - Implementation of CQUniversity’s new CISCO voicemail system:
On the weekend of Saturday 29 – Sunday 30 May 2010, the Information Technology Directorate (ITD) will be upgrading the voicemail system that is available on CQUniversity’s CISCO telephones.
This may cause intermittent disruptions to telephone services at the Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg and Noosaville campuses. ITD expects that these disruptions will only affect CISCO telephones.
