CQUniversity has been experiencing a significant increase in the volume of spam emails attempting to reach our mailboxes. In March 2008, 4.2 million spam emails were identified.
To combat this issue, ITD uses an email filter called Sophos PureMessage which reviews all inbound emails to CQUniversity mailboxes and intercepts unwanted spam. This program uses detection ‘intelligence’, in which information is updated by Sophos every 5 minutes to provide the very latest protection against spam campaigns. This process has been very effective in exposing high levels of spam at CQUniversity.
Although the ITD team has developed a high level of confidence in our Sophos PureMessage filter, we are continually reviewing its effectiveness. This is to ensure we are providing the most suitable security for all CQUniversity users.
As a result, CQUniversity has recently renewed its Sophos licenses for a further three years. This includes the use of our current PureMessage spam filter which is clearly doing a commendable job. Our aim at this point is to be confident in continuing to provide the best affordable level of spam protection at CQUniversity.
